Improving the MSD experience for Māori

maori family

We have begun work to develop a strategy and action plan, to work together with Māori, to improve the equity of outcomes for Māori.

This work has a strong alignment with our new strategic direction. The overall objective is to ensure that:

  • Māori have positive experiences every time they interact with us
  • We are partnering with the right people and organisations for the greatest impact on improving equity of outcomes for Māori
  • We are supporting long-term social and economic development of Māori.

We are currently in the engagement phase which includes asking clients, staff, community partners and providers to tell us what they think MSD needs to focus on if we are to improve our responsiveness to Māori.

We are looking to hold focus group sessions with clients and engaging providers across the country to gather their opinions on what will ensure their experience with MSD is a positive one.

Our intention is to draft content for the strategy and action plan by the end of October 2018.

Guiding the future for E Tū Whānau

E Tu whanau logo

For more than a decade our E Tū Whānau team has been working with communities around New Zealand to support action that boosts whānau wellbeing and wairua, and combats family violence.

We are currently focused on developing a new Programme of Action to guide this work in the future. At the heart of this mahi is kōrero awhi – talking to people about the reality of their lives and their experiences – as whānau, practitioners, hapū, iwi and community members.

We have been holding workshops, hui, focus groups and interviews with whānau across the country. The personal stories are especially inspiring and invaluable – they help us to better understand the things that really make a positive difference for whānau.
