Analysis of sexual violence services

MSD has commissioned an analysis of sexual violence services across New Zealand.  The aim of the analysis is to enhance our understanding of current sexual violence and other social services.  Fernhill Solutions Limited will do this work for us.

Although we have continued to build upon the services we fund through Budget 16 ($46m over four years), these do not represent the sexual violence landscape as a whole. The analysis that Fernhill Solutions does will help us understand what the full landscape looks like (this includes organisations and services not currently funded by MSD), and what the capacity of the current workforce is.

This analysis will provide a ‘snapshot’ of sexual violence services, which would include services that:

  • Are funded by MSD
  • Are not funded by MSD
  • Are funded by other government agencies
  • Don’t receive any government funding.

During the process of undertaking this analysis, Fernhill may contact some organisations to provide input.  Any contact will be made before the end of April 2019.

You may also be aware of an evaluation being undertaken by Malatest International.

Malatest’s evaluation is looking at how the Budget 16 investment has gone. The evaluation specifically focuses on four services funded though Budget 16:

  • Sexual Harm Crisis Support Services
  • Safe to talk—Kōrero mai ka ora
  • Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse Services
  • Harmful Sexual Behaviour Services for Non-mandated Adults.

The work Fernhill Solutions is doing differs from this on-going evaluation of sexual violence services, and does not include analysis of how each individual service operates.

MSD is also looking at ways to strengthen the support at a national level for the sexual violence sector, and an independent sector working group has been set up to define what support the sector requires and to design the ideal ways to provide this support. Fernhill Solutions’ analysis will complement this project by giving MSD a clearer picture of the sexual violence sector as a whole.

We will continue to update people about this work through the Family Violence and Sexual Violence Service Provider newsletter.
