Supporting community wellbeing - Kotahitanga - December 2020

The Ministry of Social Development is supporting community wellbeing around New Zealand as the impacts of COVID-19 continue to be felt.

We’re supporting communities to be stronger and more resilient in three ways.

Community Capability and Reslience Fund

Community groups across the country have been providing vital support for whānau in the face of COVID-19. The CCRF helps this to continue by providing grant funding to support local grassroots initiatives. It also encourages communities to build on existing initiatives, innovative solutions and ideas.

The first CCRF funding round has now closed but a new funding round will open soon. If you’re interested in CCRF funding, look out for updates to the CCRF information page on the MSD website.

Building Provider Capability and Reslience Fund

As New Zealand’s COVID-19 response and recovery continues, we’re providing funding for existing MSD community-based service providers so they can strengthen their organisational capability. The Building Provider Capability and Resilience Fund (the Fund) is targeted towards providers that support wellbeing and resilience in communities through social, economic and cultural development, including providers in areas where there is a lack of services. The Fund also has a focus on providers working with Māori, Pacific, ethnic and migrant communities, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations.

Providers were identified at a regional level based on local information, and invited to apply. One-off funding has also been made available to support providers through the application process, which involves developing an action plan.

Community Connection Service

The Community Connection Service takes an active approach to ensuring people are able to acces information and services across multiple government agencies and service providers. It does this by by positioning over 125 Community Connectors within NGOs and social service provider organisations across Aotearoa. Community Connection Service providers are being identified by MSD’s regional teams, and once confirmed, they’ll be published on the Family Services Directory website.
